First Light Control Unit

Custom controller for FIRST LIGHT [2026]

A prototype-grade control box for the FIRST LIGHT performances.

Problem: I do not want to look at laptop screen during performance, room needs to be as dark as possible, and I perform in the middle of the audience.

Solution: a custom controller which allows me to monitor essential states of my software, and gives me access to a few functions I need. Which are not many, since most of the control is via faders - which are tactile and need no further visual feedback.

This is not the most sophisticated thing I ever made, but it is using the awesome vintage Siemens DL-3416 displays and runs on a Teensy 4.0 communicating via serial port with a MaxForLive device. It does the job.
